2004 Ontario Technological
Skills Competition
Registration Process
SPACE RESERVATION AND WAITING LIST POLICY:
The Ontario Technological Skills Competition is becoming increasingly popular with additional school boards displaying interest in competing in the Elementary Challenges each year. To facilitate this interest, Skills Canada Ontario has put a waiting list in place for most challenges. For 2004, NEW space reservation procedures have been put into place to ensure fairness.
Skills Canada Ontario promotes the competition as a benefit of affiliation, therefore, preference for space reservation will be given to affiliated school boards. Please refer to Appendix 1 and below for details on the new space reservation procedure.
Prior to and including the space reservation deadline of January 9, 2004, school boards will be awarded space reservation in order of request date, with affiliated school boards placed ahead of those partially or not affiliated. In the event that a challenge has reached its maximum space reservation, requests for space will create a waiting list. Upon a space cancellation, space will be allocated to the next affiliated school board on the waiting list. If all interest from affiliated school boards is satisfied, school boards demonstrating partial affiliation will be next contacted in order of request date. If all partially affiliated space is satisfied, then non-affiliated school boards will then be contacted in order of request date. At that time, the contacted school board will need to affiliate with Skills Canada Ontario should they wish to send competitors to the competition. This process will continue until the Space Reservation Form deadline of January 9, 2004. After January 9, all space reservations will be awarded by request date only, regardless of affiliation status.
One team per school board will be allowed to enter each age level of each challenge at the provincial competition. This amounts to a maximum of 8 teams per school board.
All Elementary Challenges consist of competitors in teams of four. The composition of the teams must be co-ed, in any combination of boys and girls.
TEAM COMPOSITION:
All teams, for any challenge, must be comprised of both boys and girls, in any combination. Possible team combinations are, therefore, as follows:
- 1 boy, 3 girls
- 2 boys, 2 girls
- 3 boys, 1 girl

REGISTRATION PROCESS:
To reserve Elementary Cahllenge space:
Spaces can be reserved in challenges by school boards if the Space Reservation Form included with this package is completed and returned to the Skills Canada Ontario office no later than January 9, 2004. Please refer to page 3 and Appendix 1 for details of the space reservation process. Confirmation of space reservation will be sent by fax and e-mail to the school board representative on January 12, 2004 or any time thereafter upon Skills Canada-Ontario’s receiving the completed space reservation form.
Space reservation is not considered registration, therefore spaces will be forfeited if individual competitor registration forms are not received by the absolute deadline of April 16, 2004, with late fees being in effect after April 8.
Space Reservation Forms must be completed every year to ensure challenge space is reserved for each competition. Space reservations from 2003 will not apply for 2004
To register competitors:
- Competitors are to be selected to represent the school board through a regional competition, or by direct entry.
- Each competitor is to complete the registration form in its entirety and return forms to the school board representative. Please check appropriate boxes only if they apply. Please indicate clearly which four competitors comprise a team in the space provided on the form.
- The school board representative must then send complete registration forms to the Skills Canada-Ontario office via mail or fax, no later than April 8, 2004.
- A confirmation of individual competitor registration will be sent by fax or e-mail from the Skills Canada-Ontario office to the school board representative.
- At this time, any corrections to the competitor information that need to be made should be forwarded to the attention of the Registrar at the Skills Canada-Ontario office
