Skills Canada - Ontario is pleased to provide information on upcoming events at Conestoga College:

SafeWorkStart, a 1-day course has been created specifically for young workers who work in firms engaged in manufacturing. Developed in partnership with the Canadian Manufacturers & Exporters (CME) and Skills Canada, the course  focuses on the five major hazards in the manufacturing industry – machines, chemicals, slips/trips/falls, manual material handling, and mechanical material handling, and explores relevant topics such as roles and responsibilities and the principles of recognition, assessment and control of workplace hazards.

Who should register for this course?

• Employers in the manufacturing sector that hire young workers
• Individual young adults planning to enter the workforce in the manufacturing sector

Participants receive a certificate upon successful completion of the course.

Ontario College of Trades Appointments Council Moves Ahead with Appointments:

On October 24, 2011 the Ontario College of Trades Appointments Council announced its appointments to the College’s first Board of Governors, as well as to the Construction, Industrial and Service sectors of the Divisional Boards.

The Council received an overwhelming response to their call for applications and they have spent several months reviewing those applications. The Council was focused on making these decisions thoughtfully, with a fair and balanced approach in mind.

These appointments signal the first step in establishing the College’s governance structure. These Boards will focus on a variety of issues that have an impact on the businesses and practices of tradespersons and employers from across the province.

The Motive Power sector appointments to the Divisional Boards are being finalized and will be announced shortly.
