Message from Gail Smyth, Executive Director: Are you ready?

Apr 24 2017

With the Skills Ontario Competition just weeks away, the Skills Ontario team is buzzing with excitement as the last minute details are put in place before our team begins the five-day set-up at the Toronto Congress Centre. On May 1st, the Toronto Congress Centre will come alive with the excitement of the competitors, spectators, exhibitors and volunteers.

The Skills Ontario Competition is an opportunity to highlight and celebrate the young talent in our province and the important partnerships between Skills Ontario, industry, education, and government organizations that help bring skill development for youth to the forefront.

Many months – in fact, years – have gone into planning the 2017 Skills Ontario Competition. I would like to sincerely thank Skills Ontario’s many industry, education, and government partners, our volunteers, and staff for their commitment and dedication to ensuring the success of this event as we begin the next chapter of the Skills Ontario Competition.

The competitors themselves have spent many months of the school year preparing for their contests at the Skills Ontario Competition. During the course of this massive three-day event, the lives of many of these young competitors and visitors will be positively changed forever -- from gaining new self-confidence by pushing their skills to a higher level, to winning a medal, or simply meeting a new mentor and discovering new career opportunities that they didn’t know existed.

We look forward to greeting the youth of Ontario that will converge on the GTA, and I hope you, too, will join us at the 2017 Skills Ontario Competition, May 1-3, 2017 at the Toronto Congress Centre.

It is sure to be an event that the entire province can and should be proud of. Are you ready?

See you at the Skills Ontario Competition,

Gail Smyth
