This summer, nearly 400 students across the province will begin exploring future career options in the skilled trades and technologies at Skills Ontario Summer Camps. These camps are hosted throughout Ontario in partnership with Magna, Hydro One, the Government of Ontario, and many local colleges and other industry organizations.

Camp registration is open and spaces are going fast, with eight locations already at-capacity to welcome students for week-long opportunities that provide skilled trades and technologies workshops, industry tours, mentorship, and more! Each camp hosts a range of hands-on workshops, depending on the specialization of the host college or industry facility, allowing for unique sets of experiences across the province. Workshops can include construction, heavy equipment service, GIS and horticulture, LEGO robotics, culinary arts, aviation, and more! Each camp also features games and entrepreneurship activities.

Each week-long camps runs Monday through Friday and concludes with a Camper Showcase on Friday afternoon. During this showcase, students have the opportunity to highlight their projects to parents, college VIPs, media, and other guests. Skills Ontario is pleased to offer All-Girls’ and All-Boys’ camps this summer, as well as a Francophone camp in Sudbury at Collège Boréal.

This year, Skills Ontario is thrilled to host multiple camps in partnership with First Nations, Métis, and Inuit (FNMI) communities:

  • Matawa Learning Centre, Thunder Bay (May 17, 18, & 19)
  • Wikwemikong, Manitoulin Island (July 17, 18, & 19)
  • M’Chigeeng, Manitoulin Island (July 20 & 21)
  • Fort William First Nation, Thunder Bay (July 31 & August 1)

“The Skills Ontario Camps aim to inspire the next generation of skilled trade and technology professionals,” says Karen Throupe, Summer Camp Manager at Skills Ontario. “Through fun, hands-on activities this program provides an opportunity for young people to explore a range of viable career options, to become aware of the apprenticeship pathway and the relevant courses they can take in high school, and to recognize how vital employability skills are to their future success.”
