Team Ontario brings back 34 medals from 2016 Skills Canada National Competition in Moncton

Jun 10 2016

Waterloo, Ontario -- The 2016 Team Ontario was the largest brigade of skilled students from the province to attend the national competition to date – with 68 competitors -- and their achievements at the national competition were just as impressive. The team earned 34 medals across 44 contest areas, with 12 gold medals, 13 silver, and 9 bronze. Ryan Zantinge of Fanshawe College won gold in the Architectural Technology and Design contest, and was also honoured with the Best of Region award for Ontario.

This year was also a qualifying year for the 2017 WorldSkills Competition in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. Team Ontario has four prospective WorldSkills 2017 Team Canada members in three contest areas, who will have to complete a WorldSkills trial to formally make the team:

Avery Bird & Theodor Willert of Humber College: Mechatronics

Jonathan Adair of Georgian College: CNC Machining

Anne Matiowsky of St. Lawrence College: Beauty Therapy

Those who qualify at the trials, will have over a year to prepare for the prestigious international competition in October 2017.
