Skills Ontario Presents the Skills Ontario Young Women’s Conferences

Apr 24 2017

Eighteen-hundred girls from across Ontario will converge on the GTA for the annual Skills Ontario Young Women’s Conferences, taking place at the Toronto Congress Centre, May 1 & 2, 2017. Over these two days, the girls in grades 7-8 (Monday) and 9-12 (Tuesday) will explore hands-on activities, challenges, and mentoring from fifty tradeswomen that will be in attendance.

Among the organizations will have mentors present are: Magna International, Crosslinx Transit Solutions, Toronto Hydro, Hydro One, Ontario Power Generation, George Brown College, and Toromont.

Kayleen McCabe, licensed contractor and host of DIY Network’s Rescue Renovation, will deliver the keynote address to audiences at the conference on both days.

Sponsored by Magna International, Hydro One, the Ministry of Education, the Yves Landry Foundation, and Sound Events, the Skills Ontario Young Women’s Conferences seek to demonstrate that skilled trades and technologies are accessible, interesting, and a rewarding and profitable career choice for young women.

“Young women need to know that the trades and technologies offer many opportunities that can lead to bright, stable and successful futures,” says Gail Smyth, Executive Director at Skills Ontario. “We sincerely thank the sponsors of Skills Ontario Young Women’s Conferences who, through their partnership, show tremendous support for a productive and diverse workforce of the future.”
