Far North Trades & Tech Days

The Far North Trades & Tech Days are interactive, career exploration events for elementary students in Northern Ontario. Because access to events such as the Skills Ontario Competition can be more difficult for students in Northern Ontario, this event provides them both with the information of our in-school presentation program and the opportunity to participate in hands-on workshops. This combination allows students to actively explore the knowledge and skills involved in skilled trade and technology occupations.

Since 2014, events have been organized in Geraldton, Marathon, Manitouwadge, Red Rock and Sault Ste. Marie (First Nations, Métis, and Inuit focused), through partnerships with local school boards and community organizations. Out of several hundred participants, over 90% have reported being more interested in considering a skilled trade or technology career after attending these events. Educator and workshop leaders have expressed the success of, and need for, this programming in their communities.
