OTSC will move to Toronto Congress Centre in 2017

May 5 2015

The OTSC is the largest skilled trades competition in Canada, and the event will be moving to the Toronto Congress Centre in 2017. RIM Park in Waterloo has been the host venue since 2002 when the organization moved the event from a venue in Kitchener.

The announcement was made by Gail Smyth, the Executive Director of Skills Ontario, during the official opening of the competition this morning featuring guest speakers Minister Reza Moridi, Minister of Training, Colleges and Universities, and Linda Hasenfratz, CEO, Linamar Corporation.  The competition, currently hosted at RIM Park, features 67 unique skilled trade and technology contests, and 2,000 competitors from elementary and high schools as well as college and apprenticeship students from across Ontario. The competition also draws over 20,000 spectators each year, a number that continues to grow each year.

“The competition continues to experience incredible growth and it is becoming increasingly difficult to host it in a facility built as a sports complex,” said Smyth.  “In 2002, when we moved to RIM Park, it was possible to host all contest areas inside the complex now, in 2015, the parking lot is full of tents needed to accommodate the additional contests, workshops and interactive booths.”
