Toronto, ON – On Tuesday, May 2nd, over 300 Skills Ontario Competition competitors and volunteers, joined by the Holmes Group, hammered a nail into wood simultaneously.

More than 230 competitors and 40 volunteers from the Team & Home Building, Team Carpentry and Individual Carpentry contests, joined by the Holmes Group, put their construction skills to work to beat the record.

The number to beat was 250, and Skills Ontario has set the new record at 299. The Skills Ontario competitors were already there with their hammers, and the Skills Ontario Competition is already an amazing three-day event.

A GUINNESS WORLD RECORD™ title makes the Skills Ontario Competition officially amazing.

“By holding the GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ title for most people hammering a nail simultaneously, it highlights the skills, teamwork, and excellence that these competitors represent,” says Gail Smyth, Executive Director of Skills Ontario. “We are so proud to say that the Skills Ontario Competition is the largest skilled trades and technologies competition in Canada, and now holds the GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ title for most people hammering a nail simultaneously.”

Sponsored by the Holmes Group, Mike Holmes, Mike Holmes Jr., and Sherry Holmes were in attendance to lend their hammer skills and help break the record.

The Skills Ontario Competition is the largest skilled trade and technology competition in Canada; each year, participation records are broken: from 2,200 competitors in 2016 to over 2,500 competitors who converged on the GTA this year to showcase their skills to their peers, educators, mentors, and potential employers.
