Helping our young people get a head start on what they want to do in the future is more important than ever these days and a Durham College summer camp this month did just that.
Skills Ontario, a not-for-profit organization which promotes the skilled trades and technologies, held The Skills Work! Camp, a week-long day program for kids entering grades 8 and 9, at the Whitby campus in August.
WHITBY -- A group of students who took a summer camp program at Durham College could help rectify the skills shortage that Ontario is facing.
TIMMINS - A group of local students learned there's another option besides going to university or college for traditional academics.
Nine students from Grades 7 and 8 participated in a week-long program hosted by Skills Canada Ontario
In the Skills Work! Camp, there are no bonfires but participants learn about electricity. There's no chopping of firewood, but students learn about carpentry. And traditional barbecues are replaced with culinary classes
