Due to the increased popularity of some contests at the Ontario Technological Skills Competition (OTSC), Skills Canada – Ontario introduced qualifying competitions across the province in 2005. In order to compete at the OTSC in specified contests, secondary level students must participate in the Qualifying Competition first. Currently, the following seven contests are offered at each Qualifying Competition location:
The scopes, projects, judging criteria and score sheets for each Qualifying contest are created by Qualifying Technical Committees consisting of one representative from each qualifying area (college) and the OTSC contest Technical Committee Chair. The documents created by the Qualifying Technical Committees will be used in all Qualifying Competition locations to maintain consistency in competitor selection across the province. Scopes for the Qualifying Competition will be posted by the end of January 2009. Please be aware that changes may occur in the scopes until one month prior to the competition. The Qualifying Competition is offered in six areas of the province in partnership with Ontario colleges. All school boards in Ontario have been designated to a particular Qualifying Competition area and college location. Please see the school board divisions document for your qualifying location.
