Building Employability Skills: The HR Component at the Ontario Technological Skills Competition (OTSC)

Feb 17 2016

To achieve a place at the Ontario Technological Skills Competition, competitors need to demonstrate an excellence in their skilled trade; that’s a given. These contests allow participants to showcase their skills, talents and knowledge. Employability skills such as communications, teamwork and problem solving are also key skills that will accelerate job placement, retention and life-long success.

The HR component is an opportunity for each competitor to participate in a 5-minute job interview, and to have their resume evaluated. The goal of incorporating interviews into each contest area is to test competitors in the area of employability skills, alongside the technical skills being tested in each contest.  The interview and the resume together comprise 5% of the total mark for the competitor.

This part of the competition would not be possible without the expertise and commitment of over 60 Human Resources professionals from across the province. Every volunteer makes a difference, and we appreciate their unique contribution.

We are currently looking for volunteer May 2nd from 8 a.m. – 2 p.m., and May 3rd where there are three different shifts available: 7:30 - 11 a.m., 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. or 7:30 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Please email Ashley Pszeniczny at for more information on the HR component and how you can get involved.
