Youth explore skilled trades one hands-on activity at a time

Jul 6 2015

Students going into grades seven and eight are exploring a future career in the skilled trades and technology at our Skills Work!® Summer Camps across Ontario. Sponsored by Hydro One and hosted in partnership with colleges across the province, these young people will have the opportunity to participate in skilled trades workshops, industry tours, meet local mentors and learn more about a career path in the skilled trades.

The summer camp features tours of the colleges and industry facilities; a range of workshops from automation to culinary arts, horticulture to broadcasting, electrical to woodworking; as well as games and entrepreneurship activities.

“The goal of the Skills Work! Summer Camps is to introduce these young campers to a range of career possibilities. The camp is all about making discoveries and learning new skills,” says Charlene Bishop, Summer Camp Manager at Skills Ontario. “Young people need to know that the trades and technologies offer many opportunities that can lead to bright, stable and successful futures.”
